Earthquake kills seven in Tibet

HONGKONG, Sept 19: Seven persons have been killed and 22 injured in Tibet due to the earthquake that measured 6.8 on the Richter scale, which jolted India, Nepal and parts of Tibet that had an adjoining border to Nepal, on Sunday.



The quake triggered landslide has disrupted traffic in Yadong district of Tibet. [break]



Electricity and water supply along with telecommunication services have been hit hard due to the earthquake.



Yadong is 40 kilometers away from the epicenter of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake, Sikkim of India, according to government news agency of China, Xinhua.



Shigatse party Chief Dianzin Namgyai has informed of 156 houses being damaged in the village of Galingang and gave news of residents being displaced.



All schools have remained closed on Monday. The Tibet government has supplied 500 hundred tents to the village.
