KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Aftershocks of the powerful earthquake that occurred at 6.50 am today (Tuesday) are continuing.
The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale, struck Dinggyê County in Tibet, China. Following this, up to 10 aftershocks have been recorded so far, according to Lok Bijaya Adhikari, a seismologist from the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, who shared the information with Repubica.

He said that the earthquake’s epicenter was located in an area near the Nepal-China border. “After today’s major earthquake, 10 aftershocks have occurred so far, all of which have a magnitude greater than 4,” he stated. He further mentioned that there is a possibility of more significant aftershocks.
Dinggyê County is bordered by Sankhuwasabha and Taplejung in eastern Nepal and Sikkim State in India in Southeast. The tremors of the earthquake were felt in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Udayapur, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Panchthar, Ilam, Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung and other districts of Terai and Eastern Nepal along with the Kathmandu Valley.
The impact of this earthquake has also been seen in Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim and Uttarakhand in India.
