KATHMANDU, April 18: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has penalized epidemiologist Dr Sher Bahadur Pun working at the Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital for his alleged involvement in leaking vital information related to coronavirus.
The MoHP has asked him to furnish clarification for leaking the vital information to the media on COVID-19. The ministry had verbally warned him not to share information to the media. On Friday, the ministry sent a written letter to him, informing him that he has been called back to the ministry.

According to sources, Pun has been asked to report to the ministry, starting today.
"He has transferred to the ministry and has been kept in a reserved pool for now and that he won’t be in a position to work," the source said. Pun was appointed on a contract basis.
An official at the ministry, however, expressed regret over the transfer of Dr Pun to the ministry, saying that doctors like Pun should have been in the field instead of working in the ministry at the time of this global pandemic.
