This time he has forwarded a 10-point demand that include immediate implementation of the past agreements reached with the government and scrapping of three letters asking IoM to reopen the process of providing licenses to new medical colleges. One letter was written to the Ministry of Education by the Prime Minister's Office, second by the ministry to the TU and the third to IoM by the TU.
Issuing a press statement on Thursday, Dr KC said that he would be compelled to launch fresh hunger strike if the demands he forwarded are not meet within 10 days starting Friday.
Dr KC, who staged hunger strike five times in the past, accused that the government of being totally indifferent toward implementing the agreement reached in the past. He has demanded that the university should not grant new license for medical colleges until a new policy regarding the medical colleges is formulated.
Dr KC also sought action for those lawmakers, who have pressurized the government to reopen the licensing process and have even threatened to obstruct the Constituent Assembly to serve their vested interests.
Similarly, he has also demanded stern actions for those TU officials, who were implicated in corruption by a probe committee. His other demands include: granting autonomy to IoM, setting up of a medical university, action against officials who submitted false reports concerning the infrastructure and other facilities required for opening new medical colleges.
"Instead of providing autonomy to IoM, they are even trying to break up the institution," reads the statement. He has also demanded implementation of feasibility study report regarding medical colleges.
"Situation has even become more serious, after the government has taken dangerous step that will have serious impacts on the medical education and health services," the statement further reads.
Dr KC has also asked the government to open medical colleges in remote parts of the country.
