KATHMANDU, Dec 6: While reminding the government of the ultimatum issued by him to implement the July agreement, Dr Govinda KC, issuing a statement on Wednesday, has expressed serious concerns over the malpractices taking place in the judiciary.
On November 26, Dr KC had issued a three-week ultimatum to the government to implement the agreement signed between him and the government. In the agreement the government had agreed to bring new Medical Education Act among other things. The ultimatum expires on December 18.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, Dr KC said 'mafia' has been influential in the state organs and the judiciary. He also said that the state of impunity has been a major threat to the rule of law and good governance. He said that the Gopal Prasad Parajuli episode showed how the politicians and the mafia collude and undermine the judiciary.
“Mafia elements have gotten their claws into the medical education sector by influencing the judiciary,” he added.
Dr KC cited a verdict of the Janakpur High Court of November 19 regarding medical education that favored the National Medical College, Birgunj although the college had admitted students against rules and norms. “It has drawn our serious concerns, “said Dr KC. “The medical college admitted students who had failed in the entrance exams, but the court verdict has recognized such admissions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr KC in the statement has also accused the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) of working in favor of the 'medical mafia'. “Under political pressure, the NMC allowed Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences to run postgraduate classes without preparations and without meeting the requirements,” the statement reads. “But the government did not allow Karnali Academy of Health Sciences to run postgraduate classes despite the academy meeting the requirements,” said Dr KC. “Our attention has been seriously drawn toward this too.”
