KATHMANDU, Aug 5: Senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC has been barred from providing voluntary service at a health post in the remote Dolpa district.

After retiring from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) following 26-year of service, Dr KC started providing health service voluntarily in rural parts of the country. But a few days ago, Dr KC was barred from providing health service at Rimi Health Post in Jagadulla Rural Municipality in Dolpa district.

In an opinion piece published in Setopati news portal on Wednesday, Dr KC wrote that the Chair of the Jagadulla Rural Municipality threatened the chief at the health post not to allow him to provide service to the public.

“Despite threats, I provided service for two days. I was in Dolpa to provide service to the general public for at least three days. After repeated threats to the chief of the health post, I decided to stop providing the service and left the area,” Dr Kc wrote in the opinion article.
