Double delight for PLA, ECS in volleyball<br/>Nationwide open badminton kicks off

KATHMANDU, Sept 8: The People´s Liberation Army (PLA) Club and the Employment Creation Service (ECS) won both the matches of the day under men´s category in the ongoing National Women´s and Men´s League Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday. [break]



PLA fought for four sets to record the victory over Eastern Region in their first match. PLA, which won the first two sets 25-23, 25-21 lost the third 19-25. But in the fourth set they downed the opponent 25-17 to take over the match. In another match, the PLA team scheduled to clash with the Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center (JVTC) enjoyed the walkover.







Similarly, ECS registered an easy win over both opponents of the day in straight sets. ECS downed Central Region 31-29, 25-14, 24. In another match, they thrashed Far-western Region 25-9, 25-18, 28-8.



Similarly, in another match of the day, Mid-western Region saw off Far-western Region in the straight set 25-18, 25-23, 25-20. While JVTC defeated Mid-western Region 25-20, 25-19, 25-19.



The tournament organized by Nepal Volleyball Association is being held at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium.





Nationwide open badminton kicks off



KATHMANDU, Sept 8: Dinesh Rana and Surya Thapa of the Nepal Police Club (NPC) started with a winning note under men´s single category in the Nationwide Open Badminton Tournament that kicked off on Tuesday at the Police Training Academy, Maharajgunj and the APF Court, Halchowk.



Dinesh edged out Sunil Shakya of Lalitpur in straight sets 21-19, 21-15 and Surya Thapa saw off Raja Babu Regmi of Lalippur 21-7, 21-7. Likewise, Raju Gupta of Chitwan downed Prashant Shrestha of ADB 24-22, 21-5.



Similarly, Bikash Gauchan of Lalitpur beat Balaram Khatri of NPC 22-20, 21-18. Ramesh Dangol of Handigaun defeated Ramananda Chaudhary of NPS 21-15, 21-18. Jeevan Rai of Banke beat Raju Khadka of Baglung 16-21, 24-22, 21-16. Among the 100 matches of the day, 56 enjoyed walkover.



In men´s doubles category, the pair of Mani Kandangwa and Mana Bista from Jhapa defeated Gyanendra Tamang and Hari Tamang from Panchthar 21-10, 21-10.



Similarly, Yadav Chaudhary and Tek Nath Jha of the host saw off Lal Bahadur Limbu and Sri Rai´s pair from Nakhipot 21-9, 21-17. Likewise, Milan Rajbhandari and Ganesh Magar´s pair of the APF downed Ramesh Dangol and Chandra Tamang´s pair from Baneshwar 21-7, 25-23.



IGP Ramesh Chand Thakuri had inaugurated the tournament organized by the Nepal Police.





Gyanu wins gold in karate



KATHMANDU, Sept 8: Gyanu Adhikari of RR Campus bagged gold under women´s 50 kg category in the First Nationwide Inter Campus Siterio Karate Tournament on Tuesday. Gyanu defeated Sarita Shrestha of Saraswati Campus in the title clash.



Similarly, in men´s 50 kg, Rabindra Karki of RR and Dhana Bahadur Rai of Budhanilkantha set up the title clash. In women´s 40 kg, Saru Pariyar of Shanti Niketan of Ilam and Nirmala Tamang of Saraswati Campus, Jorpati entered the final.
