Door opens for inking petro deal with China

KATHMANDU, March 23: China visit by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has opened the door for importing fuel from China.

Nepal had started the process of signing a petro deal with the northern neighbor following an unofficial blockade by India.

Although Nepal and China failed to sign a deal on fuel import, the issue has been included in the 15-point joint statement issued by the two countries.

Nepal and China have agreed to sort out the issues of price, tax, transportation and customs before signing a deal.

An official of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) said that the agreement has opened the door for a petrol deal.

“Despite failing to ink deal, the issue surfaced in the statement,” said the official.

Nepal and China have also agreed to construct fuel storage tank in Nepal.

Nepal has already reached a framework agreement on importing one-third fuel consumed in the country from China.
