After the 456-MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project started full-fledged production last week, the country’s total electricity production stands around 2,000 MW, making the country self-reliant in the electricity supply. However, the consumption is still low due to the problem of infrastructure including the transmission lines.

Nepal has been looking towards increasing domestic consumption of electricity to replace imported fuel for energy supply. In addition to this, the country is also making an effort to start power trade with the neighboring countries to utilise its surplus production.
