KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Both domestic and international flights have increased at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The TIA office said that there has been a rush of daily flights since the beginning of Tihar festival.

TIA General Manager Pratap Babu Tiwari reported that there has been a daily influx of flights, indicating a rise in both domestic and international air travel. "While there are fewer flights during Tihar compared to Dashain, we are experiencing a steady increase in daily flights," he mentioned. Tiwari added that there are currently approximately 110 two-way international flights.

At the time of Dashain, on October 16, the highest number of international flights was 113. Which is the highest number of flights in a single day. The statistics of the airport have more than 100 international flights on October 17 and more than 100 international flights from October 18 to 20.

The surge in air traffic is attributed to festivals like Tihar and Chhath, along with the ongoing tourist season. General Manager Tiwari noted a daily increase in the number of domestic air passengers due to Tihar and Chhath. He mentioned that 14,000 to 15,000 passengers are traveling through 300 flights daily, with 20 airlines, including 12 helicopter companies, operating domestically.

Int'l Airline flights added

International airlines have added flights to accommodate the growing demand during the new winter flight schedule. Qatar Airways, Fly Dubai, and other airlines have increased their flights, facilitated by efficient air traffic management.

General Manager Tiwari stated that 30 airlines, including three Nepali ones, are operating international flights at TIA.
