KATHMANDU, Oct 5: The Department of Industry (DoI) has awarded a license to Kailashnath Mahadev Cable Car (KMCC) Company to connect Katmandu Fun Park of Chittapol VDC of Sangabhanjyang in Bhaktapur to a Kailashnath Mahadev on nearby hilltop.

Though Shiva Darshan Cable Car had also applied for the license along with KMCC, the company later withdrew its application, according to DoI officials. [break]

The DoI had asked the both companies to come agree on a single cable car company, saying that two cable car companies would not be feasible at the same place.

KMCC is jointly promoted by Bharati Giri, promoter of Kathmandu Fun Park and Kamal Jain, who erected the statue of Lord Shiva, one of the tallest statues of Lord Shiva in the world.

DoI officials said that KMCC has already got permission from the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation for the installation of the cable car.

Talking to this daily, Jain said they have convinced the second company to support them. Jain added that they will come up with ´open´ cable cars.

“There will be a total of 130 cars and one car can accommodate two persons at a time,” added Jain.

The cable car company with a ropeway that spans about 800 meters is being constructed with an investment of around Rs 50 million, and will come into operation within next 6 to 8 months if all goes as planned, according to Jain.

KMCC has started to acquire land on lease for the purpose.

Jain said their collaborated with Kathmandu Fun Park for bringing more visitors to both the sites. “We have targeted domestic as well as foreign visitors,” he said, adding that they aim to provide service to 310,000 persons a year.
