BHAKTAPUR, Dec 8: Bhaktapur District Administration Office has started registration for e-passport (electronic passport) and its distribution starting Wednesday.
Starting today, service seekers can apply at the District Administration Office and collect their passports from the office. According to the Department of Passports, only 20 people can apply for e-passports daily for the time being. “Owing to which only permanent residents can apply for e-passports,” it added.
The government started issuing electronic passports from November 17. The introduction of e-passport is expected to replace the machine readable passport (MRP). The department is planning to expand it across the country. The biometric passport is equipped with an electronic microprocessor chip and service seekers can get their passports on the same day.
The department stopped the distribution of tokens for MRP from December 1 and will completely stop the distribution of MRP from December 14.
