The major parties have started door-to-door campaigns and mass meets to get in touch with the voters in their constituencies. The candidates from UCPN (Maoist), UML, Nepali Congress (NC), and Federal Socialist Party have been visiting villages of their constituencies to win the confidence of voters. [break]
However, the candidates from less active political parties -- Nepal Family Party, Madhesi People´s Right Forum-Democratic, Swabhiman Party, Nepal Communist Party, Jan Unity Co-operative Party and Rastriya Akahnda Party -- have made not efforts to reach out to the villages in their constituencies.
The leaders of smaller parties say they were not comfortable about visiting remote villages as Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist cadres have created obstacles for them.
“We have started door-to-door campaign as a part of our electoral campaign,” said Shree Jabegu, a UCPN (Maoist) leader. NC leader Dekendra Chemjong has said that the candidates from their party have started electoral campaign by floating agendas aimed at the district.
There are 34 candidates contesting from 18 different parties in the district. There are 95,791 voters in the district.
