Dewan Singh, the father, said that his son started developing disability after receiving vaccine for pneumonia while he was a toddler. "We didn´t have any other choice as no medicine would cure his disease," added Devisara, the mother. [break]
She said that the pain of raising her disable son is greater than the pain she had experienced while giving birth to him. "On the one hand, we are struggling to make the ends meet," she added, "and on the other, there is an additional challenge of taking care of a disable child."
She said that they sold all their land to treat their son, but to no avail.
Devisara´s plight did not end there. She said that her husband even married another woman, holding her responsible for the child´s disability, and her neighbors sneered at her.
"No matter what they say, I love my son, and will take good care of him," she added.
According to the Office of Women and Children in the district, 137 people are living with disability in the district.
