KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Modeling in Nepal is at an early stage.  People hardly make modeling as a full-time career.  Consequently, many parents don’t yearn to see their children in this field. Nonetheless, Aditi Adhikari -- 17, an aspiring model, is blessed with supportive parents. Despite having a science background, her parents still support her.   “When I realized my interest in fashion and makeup, my parents encouraged me to follow my interest,” says Adhikari.

With the zeal to be on top, she recently won the ‘Model Hunt Nepal 2018’. Along with the title award, she also grasped the title of the commercial model as well.

She was fond of watching fashion shows and makeup shows since her childhood.  However, she was not aware of her potentiality. While growing up, she used to receive positive compliments about her physiques. Adhikari added, “Later those complements inspired me to become a model.  Also, I realized that modeling is a part of my life.”

Adhikari said, “Art sector in Nepal is still in its infancy.  We cannot dive into this field without conducting proper research. Modeling is a good profession in other parts of the world. However, the income from modeling is not sufficient in Nepal.”

“Especially in developing countries, models are victims of hate comments. One must learn to fight negativity and possess the power to make the best of the opportunities that lay in the path. A model should always maintain a balance between personal and professional life. However, prioritizing on education is a must,” she added.

Despite the challenges present in Nepal's glamour field, Adhikari is hopeful of advancing in modeling, citing the broadening scope of modeling.

Adhikar states, “Apart from glamour and stardom, I have my own life. I need time for myself as well. I need to get my priorities sorted. I won’t turn  down work offers, should I get one in the near future. However, I will never let work hamper my personal life and academics.”

Adhikari has not limited herself to national pageants. She will soon be participating in two international modeling shows, in India and South Korea, this year.
