KATHMANDU, July 5: Disability Rights Bill-2016 has been tabled at Monday's parliament meeting.
The bill ensures new national law in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Constitution of Nepal, according to the National Federation of the Disabled, Nepal (NFDN). As a signatory country to the CRPD, Nepal is obliged to promote, defend and reinforce the human rights of all persons with disabilities (PoDs).
Understanding disability
The bill was prepared after extensive consultations and discussions with concerned stakeholders including the National Federation of the Disabled Nepal (NFDN), and disability rights activists among other, according to NFDN.
We hope the government will endorse the new bill at the earliest, said Shudarson Subedi, chairperson at the NFDN.
