“The patients have started fainting. We don´t even have facility to test cholera and we have informed the center about the situation,” said Dr Prakash Chhetri at the Dadeldhura District Hospital. Dr Chhetri said health workers were trying their best and treating the patients at Gaudeswar Higher Secondary School in the village as the health post is four hours away from the village.
“We have been treating the patients by closing the school. We have also dispatched necessary medicines to the village,” Dr Chhetri added. He informed that additional health workers have also been sent to Belapur where two assistant health workers were handling the cases. Dhana Devi Nayak, 60, and 32-year-old Dammari Devi Damai from the village had died of diarrhea on Sunday.
Other VDCs have also been hit by diarrhea and the district hospital is bearing the brunt of increasing number of patients. Chhetri said five to six patients, mostly children and women, come to the hospital daily. “They have been laid on floors in lack of beds,” Cheetri conceded.
