Those dead in Kharakdanda have been identified as 15-year-old Hasta Bahadur Bayambu and 10-year-old Jagat Bahadur Bayambu, while the one from Beldanda is Naramati Ruchal. Health officials say diarrhea has spread in a dozen villages.

Locals said patients are facing difficulty in getting treatment as Ganesh Gaire, the in-charge of the sub-health post, has not returned from district headquarters for which he left a week ago. Teams from Palpa DPHO and Rampur Health Post have left for Galdha VDC.

Ananta Gyawali, a local teacher, blamed the spread of diarrhea on contaminated drinking water.

He said there had been one more death from diarrhea a few days ago.

Patients say they are being forced to seek expensive treatment options as there is no medicine at Galdha Health Post. Some 150 people are suffering from diarrhea in the VDC.
