Dhangadhi Sub-metropolis: Independent candidate Hamal ahead by more than 3,000 votes

DHANGADI, May 17: Independent candidate Gopal Hamal, who has been leading the mayoral race in Dhangadhi, the only sub-metropolitan city in the far west, has taken the lead with more than 3,000 votes. He is being followed by Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Nrip Bahadur Wad on behalf of the alliance.

Hamal has received 6,596 votes among the 14,776 votes that have been counted so far. Following him, Wad of NC has received 3354 votes while CPN-UML's Ran Bahadur Chand has got 1,674 votes.

Similarly, the CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Shanti Adikari has received 2,940 votes for the post of Deputy Mayor. Kandakala Rana of UML, who is following her, has got 1,845 votes. Independent candidate Prabhakar Bhandari has got 1,647 votes so far.

The counting of votes in Ward 1 of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolis has been completed. The Counting of votes in Wards 2, 3, 18 and 19 is underway. Here, 63,715 people cast their votes to elect 97 people's representatives.
