Dhakal's attackers given jail term; Basnet acquitted

PANITANKI, April 23: The District Court, Morang has slapped jail sentence on two people for attacking Biratnagar-based journalist Khilanath Dhakal.



A bench of court´s Chief Judge Chandi Prasad Dhakal on Monday convicted Manoj Singh Rai and Rohit Koirala of the crime and slapped jail sentence on them.



Rai has been sentenced to five years in prison while Koirala to five years and six months, said court´s record keeper Bhisma Prasain. Earlier, Koirala was released by the Supreme Court on general date.



The court, however, gave a clean chit to Parshuram Basnet, assumed to be a mastermind behind the attack on journalist Dhakal who was fatally thrashed after kidnapping on Jeth 22, 2069 BS.



Following the attack on journalist Dhakal, The Federation of Nepali Journalists, Morang had filed an FIR against Basnet, Koirala and Rai on the charge of murder attempt.
