Issuing a statement on Thursday, Deuba asked the party’s leaders and cadres who have registered independent candidacies against the party's official candidates and the alliance to withdraw from the electoral race. “I urge independent party candidates who have registered independent candidacies against the party's official candidates for the posts of local level chiefs/deputy chiefs, chairpersons/ vice-chairpersons and ward chairpersons and members to withdraw their independent candidacies by assessing the current as well as future situation of the country in the interest of the country, democracy and the party,” the statement reads.
He said that he was aware of the situation where one deserving friend is becoming a candidate for a post while another equally deserving friend is not getting that opportunity. “But for the victory of the party, I urge you to keep the highest sentiment of ‘my friend's candidature is my candidature’ and to make the victory campaign a success with sacrifice, unity and dedication, whether it is a single candidature of the Nepali Congress or collaboration with the ruling coalition parties,” he added.
