Despite NEPSE’s loss, daily turnover inches up to Rs 8.95 billion

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Wednesday lost 4.45 points to close at 2,711.45.


The secondary market opened at 2,715.91 points, initially plunged to as low as 2,707.66 points, before reaching the day’s high at 2,725.57 points in the first hour. The index then fell successively and hit the day’s low at 2,704.67 points when the last 40 minutes were left for trading. The market recovered around seven points in the remaining trading time before it closed for the day.

Five groups were listed as gainers, with the finance index adding the largest of 143.89 points in its market value. Of the eight losers, trading shed the highest of 62.92 points.


The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, dropped 1.07 points. However, daily turnover increased slightly to Rs 8.95 billion from Rs 8.91 billion on Tuesday.


Among the individual companies, 113 were gainers while 122 were registered as losers. Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited had the biggest turnover of its shares worth Rs 337.63 million.


Two companies including Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited and Corporate Development Bank Limited lost the largest of 10 percent in their market prices. Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited and Chhyangdi Hydropower Ltd were recorded as the topmost gainers.
