KATHMANDU, July 17: The construction of Ganatantra Smarak or Republic Memorial in the premises of Narayanhiti Museum, the former Royal Palace has been delayed by at least one year than the stipulated timeframe.

Started on December 7, 2012 with the aim to complete it in three years, the given timeframe to complete the project has already expired. However, the contractor blamed April 25 earthquake and the blockade imposed by India recently for the delay.

"The project could not complete in the given timeframe due to the earthquake, blockade and monsoon but construction works are going on with the aim to complete it within next one year," said Roshan Shrestha, executive director of the constructing company BKOI and SKY Bangalamukhi Joint Venture.

He said 85 percent of the construction works have been completed so far.

As a result of the delay, the cost of the project spread over 35 ropani of land has also increased from Rs 340 million to 400 million. RSS
