KATHMANDU, Feb 23: Ruling UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota said on Saturday that the delay in forming a government led by the sitting chief justice (CJ) would only invite foreign interference.

Talking to journalists at the party head office Peris Danda, Sapkota also informed that the international community has taken efforts aimed at forming a CJ-led government positively. [break]

“If leaders want to find a solution to the current deadlock, parties should stop opposing the major parties´ decision to form a government led by the sitting chief justice,” said Sapkota. Some leaders the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist have opposed the decision arguing it is against the principle of separation of powers.

CPN-Maoist and other leftist parties have argued in favor of a government led by political parties.

Sapkota also informed that the decision to form a CJ-led government would be tabled at an all party meeting for endorsement.

“Only after the decision gets endorsed by the parties will the cabinet recommend the president´s office to resolve constitutional difficulties,” said Sapkota, adding that the major parties would not bypass other parties.

CPN-Maoist and other small parties have said recently that they would not accept the decision unilaterally taken by the major parties. He also said that fresh election would be held by mid-June if the political parties endorse the proposal without further delay.
