KATHMANDU, April 1: Detained president of Reporters’ Club, Rishi Dhamala’s long wait for the decisive hearing on his application against his imprisonment is almost over as the Patan Appellate Court is set to conduct the hearing on the application on Thursday.

Court officials said that the court will decide whether Dhamala will be released or will continue to be in the prison, at the end of the hearing on Thursday. [break]

Arrested on February 3, Dhamala is currently in the Dillibazaar prison following an order from the Kathmandu District Court on February 27. The administration has accused him of committing a crime related to arm and ammunitions and has already denied his release until it gives its verdict on the case.

But, Dhamala has filed the application at the Patan Appellate Court against the decision of the Kathmandu District Administration that has sent him to the jail.

It took 18 days for the court to schedule the hearing as it conducts the hearing on such an application once a week, every Friday. As this Friday is a public holiday, the court has rescheduled the hearing on Dhamala’s application for Thursday.

Besides the charge related to arm and ammunitions, Dhamala also faces murder and kidnapping cases pending in the Kathmandu District Court. But the court has already ordered the police to release Dhamala on a general date. But, the order has not been effective due to the February 27 decision of the Kathmandu District Administration Office, which has also booked Dhamala on arms and ammunition charges.
