KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Though the municipal solid waste (MSW) is one of the most serious pollutants in the main cities including in the capital, Kathmandu, it is yet to be controlled by implementing effective mechanism so far.

Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development and transport entrepreneurs had forged an agreement not to allow throwing of litter from public vehicles, the decision is yet to take effect.

As per the agreement, the transport entrepreneurs are required to keep dustbins in the vehicles. But this decision too is far from implemented.

Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, spokesperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, said the agreement is yet to take hold due to lack of monitoring manpower.

These two bodies had issued a public notice for the same on December 16. Similarly, Federation of National Transport Entrepreneurs of Nepal general secretary Saroj Sitaula shared that they had circulated notice to all the public vehicles to keep dustbins in the vehicles, which is in the process of implementing.
