According to Rajendra Maharjan, joint secretary of Jyapu Samaj, the protest was called to add pressure to authorities to arrest Raju Lohar, the shooter and Kumar Ghising, one of the accomplices who are still at large.[break]
"We demand that Uprety and others involved in the murder be hanged until death," said Maharjan. The quick action taken by police in arresting Uprety and others is worth praising but the police must ensure that the accused is punished, he added.
"Incidents like this has been happening frequently as in the case of Khyati Shrestha and Bibek Sharma Luitel. We want to make sure that something like this does not happen again," Maharjan said.
The police on Friday formed a four-member probe committee under ASP Shyam Bahadur Khatri of Metropolitan Police Crime Division.

They also destroyed a private car (Ba 2 Cha 4559) at Satdobato and three public buses (Ba 9 Pa 7413, Na 3 Kha 2983 and Ba 2 Kha 776), one each at Chapagaunmod, Ekantakuna and Nakkhu Dobato respectively.
Maharjan´s body was found in the Simpani woods of Naalu VDC in Lalitpur district on Wednesday, five days after she was shot dead after being taken to the jungle on a date.
