Dashain Bazaar in Janakpur

JANAKPUR, Sept 27: Every year during Dashain, Gopal Dharmasala, Janapur becomes vibrant with numerous vendors and customers that gather for the reasonable Dashain Bazaar.

This year, the bazaar began on Thursday. Mostly household and daily use items are made available at the Dashain Bazaar, where customers tend to buy goods enough for six months to a year. Every year, the bazaar begins on the day of Ghatasthapan and runs till Astami.

The Bazaar features a total 94 stalls, 40 inside the Dharmasala building and 54 outside the building, according to Coordinator of Dashain Bazaar Management Committee, Surendra Bhandari.

Products like noodles, wick, soap, washing powder, tea, biscuits, sugar, clothing items, shoes and accessories are mostly sold at the Bazaar, informed Surendra. Sambhu Chaudhari, representative of V-series washing powder, said, “Every day, we sell around Rs 100,000 worth of detergent powder. We are targeting to earn Rs 1,200,000 this Dashain.”

Purushottam Agrawal, who has a wick and soap stall at the Bazaar, said, “We receive maximum number of customers during the last four days of Dashain. We hire around three people to deal with the customers at our stall and it still is difficult to meet the demand of each customer during the four days.”

Though it is a Dashian Bazaar, the locals take it as a reasonable price market. Tara Mahoto, who was shopping at the Bazaar on Sunday, said, “Here you get goods at cheaper price. The soaps here cost Rs 12, while the same item is priced Rs 15 outside the bazaar.

Agrawal said, “The goods sold here are comparatively cheaper because the products are directly brought from the factories. This way, we don’t have to share the profit with the middle men.”
