The regional office issued the directive in a bid to enforce the Right to Information Act effectively, said Acting Regional Administrator Dharanidhar Khatiwada. “Actions will be taken against those who do not implement the act properly," he said. Khatiwada is also a former director general of the Department of Information under the Ministry of Information and Communication.
The government introduced the act two years ago with the aim of ensuring people´s access to information of public concern and to make the state transparent and accountable to the citizens. But majority of government offices have not implemented the act yet.
According to Ganesh Baral, information officer at the regional office, information officers have not been appointed in any DAO of the eastern region so far.
KMC directs schools to appoint information officers
