DAO extends restricted zones around key govt offices for two more months

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, has maintained restricted areas around Maitighar, the President's Office, Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar, and other designated areas. Last month, the DAO issued a prohibition order for a one-month period in these areas. Following the conclusion of that period, the restricted area has now been extended for an additional two months.

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, has maintained restricted areas around Maitighar, the President's Office, Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar, and other designated areas. Last month, the DAO issued a prohibition order for a one-month period in these areas. Following the conclusion of that period, the restricted area has now been extended for an additional two months.


The DAO has designated a prohibited area for the next two months, covering the region from Maitighar Mandala to Baneshwor Chowk. Specifically, a restricted area has been outlined around the President's Office, extending from the Old Pabitra Workshop Chowk to the east, the Samakhushi exit canal to the west, the south-east gate of the Nepal Police Academy to the north, and the police hospital to the south.

Similarly, a prohibited area has been identified around the Prime Minister's Residence in Baluwatar. This area spans from the Old Pabitra Workshop Chowk through the Russian Embassy to Italia Chowk, 100 meters west of the road from the Speaker's Residence to Gairidhara, 100 meters west from the Chief Justice's Residence to Lazimpat, 100 meters to the east from Rastra Bank Chowk, and 50 meters south of Italia Chowk.


Jitendra Basnet, the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, stated that due to gatherings at the residences, offices, or administrative centers of the country's officials and main access routes, along with hunger strikes, sit-ins, and protests, the DAO has imposed a ban on such activities. Additionally, gatherings of more than five people are prohibited in these designated areas.
