GORKHA, Nov 30: The District Administration Office (DAO) in Gorkha has asked all the local level governments in the district to stop operation of crusher industries that are making illegal excavation of sands and stones.
Assistant Chief District Officer Devi Pandey Khatri said the local level has been requested to prevent such activities from rivers and streams as there are complaints of excavation and removal of sand and ballast.

A circular sent by the DAO to all the 11 local levels states that the crusher industries operating within the municipality have not been renewed and the process has not been completed as per the existing law. “Such industries are directed to immediately stop their operation,” read the circular.
The industries, however, will be allowed to operate only to serve the demand of the designated national priority projects. Industries opened to supply materials for certain projects can operate only if the contracted project demands the supply.
The DAO has asked for the details of the crusher industries after the Ministry of Home Affairs wrote earlier to provide details regarding the number of stone, ballast, sand and mining industries within seven days. The ministry also has asked to provide details if they are following the criteria set by the local authorities.
Khatri said that the administration has asked for details of Simran Crusher Industry of Sundurkhola in Palungtar Municipality- 1, Mai Manakamana Crusher Industry in Masanepati and Gorakhkali Crusher Industry in Gorkha Municipality- 10. According to the DAO, it has asked the local level to close these industries as per the directive of the Home Ministry as they have not complied with the required standards for their operation.
