Halfway between Kathmandu and Hetauda is Daman, one of the most beautiful hillside villages in Nepal. With its arresting views of the mountain ranges, the magnificent landscapes and the simple, unaffected village culture, Daman compels you to stay.



Situated at an altitude of 2,320 meters from the sea level, Daman is mostly known for its breathtaking view of the panoramic Himalaya. This village located along the Mahabharat Range of Nepal offers a truly majestic view of the mountains such as Sagarmatha, Dhaulagiri and Phurbi Chyachu. The dense forests filled with orchids also provide a sanctuary to a varied species of wildlife which adds to the natural scenery of the village. Getting there

You can find local buses going to Daman/Palung from the Old Bus Park in Kathmandu from seven o’clock in the morning. It takes around four hours in a local bus. If you consider taking a private vehicle, you can reach your destination in three hours.





These time references may vary according to the condition of the roads on the highway. Due to the recent road construction works near Naubise, it may take you a little longer than expected. In addition, if you’re driving by yourself, you should keep in mind that you need to drive through really winding roads and need to be cautious throughout the journey.





Though it’s a small hilltop village, it offers its visitors with a lot of naturally, culturally, religiously and historically important places.

Daman is perfect for short as well as long getaways. Though it’s a small hilltop village, it offers its visitors with a lot of naturally, culturally, religiously and historically important places. The Daman View Tower is one of the best known touristy destinations. It offers a panoramic view of the Himalaya when the weather is clear.



If you decide to stay overnight, you’ll find plenty of hotels that offer moderate services at reasonable prices. You can also go on short hikes or cycling in the morning. The place is also popular for witnessing beautiful sunrise and sunset.



During winter, the place can be heavily crowded by internal and international tourists to enjoy the snowfall. It’s the only destination close

to the capital where one can witness both snowfall and blossoming of rhododendron at the same time.



If you want to extend your holiday, you can also take a shortcut road from Daman/Palung to Hetuada and enjoy the border town between Kathmandu Valley and the Tarai lowlands of Nepal.





Trip essentials


Since Daman is a hilltop place, the winds can be pretty chilly and rough at times. It’s always wise to carry a windcheater even during summer. Though you may find plenty of eateries along the way, it is however good to carry a lunchbox or something to munch on the drive. You can nevertheless ask for a cup of hot local tea at teahouse along the route.



You may also want to take extra bags to bring back the place’s organic goodies home. Daman is known for its tasty radishes, and you can grab your share if you luckily reach the place during the right season.



Weather


The weather is similar to that of Kathmandu but as it’s situated on a hilltop, Daman can be colder in the mornings and evenings. The wind chills are also high, so expect a little colder weather when you are visiting

the alpine place.
