Darnal, 30, who was executive director of Samata Foundation and founding chairman of Jagaran Media Center, died when a Super Shuttle van crashed on the eastbound Dulles Access Road while going out of Dulles International Airport in Washington. [break]
He was returning from California where he was on Draper Hills Summer Fellowship at Stanford University. He had reached the USA on July 25 and was scheduled to return home on August 26. Family sources said he was due to meet White House officials as part of his fellowship program.
Darnal, a permanent resident of Mujhung Village Development Committee in Palpa, died on the spot while two fellow passengers were also injured in the accident. American news agencies reported that the driver has been charge for reckless driving.
Darnal´s maternal uncle Binod Pahadi said American police, which also informed the Nepali embassy in the US, called the victim´s wife Sarita in Kathmandu to inform her about the tragedy. Darnal´s body is currently being kept at Reston Hospital in West Virginia.
Pahadi said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already directed the Nepali embassy to make arrangements to bring Darnal´s body to Nepal.
