KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The Election Commission (EC) has issued a clarification notice to Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Karki for an alleged violation of the election code of conduct.
The EC has directed Karki to submit a written explanation within three days. The notice was issued after he participated in the nomination filing of CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli from Jhapa-5.

According to the EC, ministers and government officials are barred from engaging in political activities after the election code comes into force. Karki’s presence at the nomination event was therefore considered a breach of the code.
Despite the enforcement of the election code, Karki was seen accompanying Oli in Jhapa on Tuesday during the nomination registration process.
The EC said it may take further action depending on the response received from the chief minister.
