Dahal to lead taskforce on statute-drafting

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: The first meeting of the taskforce formed to sort out contentious issues in the constitution drafting process on Wednesday named Unified CPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as its co-coordinator.



The meeting held at the office of the Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang also named the leaders who would help the taskforce accomplish its mission.

Maoist leader Dev Gurung said Dahal was given the responsibility of leading the taskforce as he represents the largest party in the CA.[break]



The seven-member taskforce comprises Dahal, Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) Chairman Upendra Yadav, Nepal Workers Peasants Party Chairman Narayan Man Bijukchhe, Minister for Law Prem Bahadur Singh and CA member Rukmini Chaudhary.



The taskforce decided that Ram Sharan Mahat and Ramesh Lekhak from the NC, Bharat Mohan Adhikari from UML, Ratneswor Lal Kayastha from MPRF, Sunil Prajapati from NWPP, Minister Singh and CA member Chaudhary would help the taskforce  perform its task.



The taskforce, which was formed on Monday, will hold its second meeting on Thursday afternoon.
