After the meeting held at party chairman’s residence at Naya Bazaar, Maoist Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said they the meeting decided that chairman Dahal will lead the national government if situation arose for the party to lead the new government.
The meeting also decided to resume talks on new government formation process with the ruling NC and UML if constitution-drafting and peace process are guaranteed.
Shrestha said the politburo meeting scheduled for Friday will make a formal decision on the issue of army integration, mentioned in the three-point agreement signed on May 28.
Meanwhile, leaders of Nepali Congress have the Maoists to be flexible in the contentious issues to pave the path for new government.
NC spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC said that though political parties continue to hold talks, an agreement on the integration and management of Maoist army combatants is still elusive.
The UCPN (Maoist) should be flexible to implement the three-point agreement signed among the three main parties on May 28, he said while speaking an an interaction organised by Media Vision here today.
“Since the constitutional process of new government formation starts after the prime minister’s resignation, peace and a constitution should be guaranteed along with his resignation so as not to let the issues of army integration, arms management and return of seized properties pushed on the back burner,” he said.
In Palpa, NC Vice President Prakash Man Singh said the prime minister would not resign immediately. At a press meet organised by Nepal Press Union, he said the incumbent government will stay in power till the first point of the three-point agreement is implemented
“The peace process will not be complete just by forming a new government,” he said. “The first priority is conclusion of the peace process, constitution-drafting is second, power sharing is third and then only comes the formation of a national consensus government.”
