Dahal's tenure as Film Development Board's chairperson ends

KATHMANDU,

The two-year tenure of the chairman of the Film Development Board, Dayaram Dahal, ended on Friday.

Dahal has claimed that a long-term program was launched during his tenure to uplift the Nepali film industry which has been affected by the pandemic.

"I have started activities aimed at uplifting the Nepali film Industry which was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The activities range from the idea of a Story Bank to the study of Nepali films at +2 level education and the beginning of an indoor studio in Sanga, Kavre," Dahal said. He added that he has succeeded in introducing various schemes although his tenure was affected by the pandemic.

Through the Board, so as to empower original and artistic films and for script compilation, he has implemented the concept of Story Bank. Similarly, financial assistance has been provided to the films and filmmakers selected for the International Film Festival through the Board.

He informed Republica that he has put forward the concepts of a Film Investment Fund, launch of project and health insurance program, establishment of study and research branch as well as the  establishment of disaster fund and social security scheme .

Dahal said that he was not able to implement the Film Bill and national film policy as  all his focus was on keeping the movie theaters alive during the coronavirus pandemic.
