Dahal hints at meeting top China officials

KATHMANDU, Oct 22: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the high-level task force formed to resolve the contentious issues regarding the new constitution has been trying to forge consensus among the parties.



Talking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport Friday before heading for China to attend the Shanghai Expo, Dahal also hinted that he may be meeting top Chinese officials during his visit.[break]



"The efforts to resolve the issues are moving toward a positive direction, I will give continuity to it as soon as I return," he told reporters at the VVIP lounge.



He also said he is in constant touch with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and discussing ending the deadlock.



This is Dahal´s third visit to China. He first visited the northern neighbor after becoming the first prime minister of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic two years ago.His second visit was in the capacity of the party chairman.



Dahal is scheduled to address a gathering on the concluding ceremony of Sanghai Expo and organize an international press conference. Chief of Maoist Foreign Department Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Politburo member Agni Prasad Sapkota and Dahal´s personal secretary Samir Dahal are also in the team. The Maoist Chairman will return home on Oct 26.
