Speaking on the occasion, Baskota painted rosy picture of the economy, stating that economic growth increased to 4.6 percent in the fiscal year 2011/12, from 3.8 percent recorded earlier year due to overall improvement in economic activities in the country. He also informed the gathering about the government´s efforts to modernize customs administration and build necessary infrastructures in customs points to facilitate country´s foreign trade.[break]
Baskota also said the government was intensifying measures to control smuggling, revenue leakage and under invoicing of goods by strengthening customs patrolling and customs surveillance, especially during major festivals.
He also highlighted the government efforts to lure foreign investment in the country.
