KATHMANDU, March 10: Local administration in Nawalparasi has issued curfew orders from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Sunday. The administration has imposed curfew from Daunne of Nawalparasi in the east to the Rupandehi border in the west along the highway and in areas at a distance of 1 km to the north and south of it.

Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi Balkrishna Panthi said that the curfew order had been issued according to the Local Administration Act 2028.

The local administration imposed curfew after Tharuhat activists obstructed the road in Basa of Nawalparasi Tuesday. Earlier the same day, Tharu Kalyankari Sabha had issued a statement that it had withdrawn its strike from 5 p.m. Tuesday till 6 a.m. Thursday.

Shops in Nawalparasi had opened from Tuesday morning after many days of strike called by Tharuhat Rajya Swayatta Parishad. The agitating group has allowed shops to open on Tuesday and Wednesday in view of the Hindu festival of Holi.
