Crimes down on highway

ILAM, Sept 9: Criminal activities have gone relatively down along the Mechi Highway with the implementation of special security plan. Police have especially beefed up security along the highway which had become a hotspot of criminal activities over the years. [break]



Transportation along the highway and entrepreneurs had been affected by donation drive along the highway launched by several armed groups including Janawadi Kirat Workers. Police has also removed the barricades set up on the highway by the armed groups.



Three mobile police teams have been mobilized and stepped up checking at Pashupatinagar customs point. Police have also seized three illegally procured vehicles. Police have also seized goods worth over Rs 1.1million in the last 12 days alone.



"We are working with success," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Bikram Bahadur Chand. "We will soon bring the armed groups´ donation drive to naught," he said. He said police will use force to do away with strikes.



Armed groups like Limbuwan State Council, Pallo Kirant Limbuwan National Forum, Kirant Janawadi Workers have revved up donation drive in the region.
