After the split of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), there had been no such meeting between the leaders of the UML and the Maoists. UML Chairman Oli called Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and congratulated him for the first time after the election results were out. After this, the Maoist Center leaders are in informal conversation with the UML leaders.

The meeting comes in the wake of UML trying to solicit support of Maoist Center to form a new government. Sources said Oli has offered the post of prime minister to Maoist Center Chiarman Dahal in his bid to break the ruling alliance.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress(NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba is also trying to form a new government under his leadership by maintaining the current ruling alliance intact and securing further support of CK Raut-led Janamat Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party to which Resham Chaudhary is an advisor in parliament to form a new government.
