Nepal launched the inoculation campaign starting January 27 after it received one million vaccines donated by its southern neighbor India on January 21. Frontline workers including the health professionals, government employees, sanitation workers and security personnel were administered vaccines in the first phase.

The health ministry shared that 2,604,866 people have received only the first shot of the vaccines.

Nepal’s vaccination drive fell uncertain as the Serum Institute of India Pvt Ltd- the world’s largest COVID-19-- vaccine manufacturer company in India, stated that it would not be able to supply  Covishield vaccines to any other country before 2022. As many as 1.4 million people including the senior citizens, aged over 65, however, have been waiting for the booster dose of the Covishield vaccines.

Meanwhile, Nepal is expecting shipment of Vero Cell Vaccines from Sinopharm in Beijing from Thursday as per agreement reached for procurement of the vaccine between the company and the government of Nepal earlier.
