The Kathmandu Valley has reported 46.54 percent of the total confirmed cases in the country


KATHMANDU, Nov 21: Nepal on Saturday witnessed 1,674 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), taking the total case tally to 218,639.

Through 8,144 RT-PCR tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 1,013 males and 661 females tested positive for the virus. Nepal has so far conducted 1,652,043 RT-PCR tests. 


According to the daily COVID-19 updates by the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 193,325 patients have so far got over the disease that originated from Chinese Wuhan Province in December last year. The number includes 2,323 additional recoveries confirmed in the past 24 hours.


Similarly, the number of COVID-19 related deaths has gone past the 1,300 mark with seven people dying of the disease in the past one day. The death tally stands at 1305. Nepal had reported the first COVID-19 case on January 23 and the first death due to the disease on May 16. 


Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley, where Nepal's federal capital city lies, saw 899 (512 males and 387 females) new cases of the disease. With this, the total number of infections in the three districts of the Valley -- Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur -- has advanced to  101,771 which accounts for 46.54 percent of the total confirmed cases in the country.
