KATHMANDU, June 3: A significant corruption case has been filed against 14 people, including Gajendra Maharjan, the mayor of Lalitpur's Godawari Municipality. Following the filing of the case, Mayor Maharjan is set to be suspended.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) lodged the case at the Special Court on Monday, demanding a claim exceeding one billion rupees. The CIAA has registered five cases under various titles against the accused.

The indictment alleges that the defendants embezzled revenue by awarding contracts for river products at rates below the government's stipulated prices. The CIAA has called for double fines and imprisonment under the Prevention of Corruption Act due to revenue embezzlement. The authority specifically cited corruption activities during the quarrying of road stones from Lele and Nallu quarries.
