KATHMANDU, Dec 17: Prime Minister K P Oli has put off the Constitutional Council meeting he called earlier for 5 PM.

Sources close to Prime Minister Oli said the meeting was put off after one on one meeting between Oli and Dahal. What transpired between the two leaders is not known.

During the Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday, the two leaders had agreed to withdraw the ordinance and make appointments in the constitutional bodies in consensus.

Sources, however, claimed that the two leaders have agreed to make nominations in the various constitutional bodies in consensus as agreed on Wednesday. A cabinet meeting scheduled for 6 PM is scheduled to issue a fresh ordinance to nullify the ordinance on the Constitutional Council meeting on Tuesday.

During the Constitutional Council meeting held on Tuesday, Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina were present, while House Speaker Agni Sapkota and the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba had chosen to abstain from the meeting.

Sources claimed that Chief Justice Rana had conveyed a message to Baluwatar that he would not be able to attend the meeting today. The absence of Chief Justice Rana would leave the CC meeting short of the required quorum even on the basis of the newly-introduced ordinance.
