KATHMANDU, Dec 12: The president of the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), Sher Bahadur Deuba has decided not to attend the Constitutional Council (CC) meeting scheduled for Sunday.
Sources close to Deuba said he has conveyed his inability to attend the CC meeting as the NC has announced a nationwide protest against the government on Sunday. The CC meeting scheduled for 9 AM on Sunday is expected to nominate candidates to various constitutional bodies including the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and Election Commission.
The main opposition party leader is a member of the CC that makes decisions about filling vacant positions in the constitutional bodies. Those nominated by the CC meeting need to be endorsed by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee for the appointment
