Inaugurating an Ayurvedic Hospital at Palungtar of Gorkha district, Maoist Vice chairman Bhattarai claimed that attempts were being made to restore monarchy in the name of “cultural king” and empower the president.
Warning the country is sliding into crisis, Bhattarai said there is no alternative to consensus if the country is to see the conclusion of the peace process and constitution drafting. “The Nepali Congress (NC) should withdraw its candidacy to create an environment for consensus,” he said.
He also argued that the UCPN (Maoist) as the largest political party should lead the government.
NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel has been left the sole candidate in the prime ministerial election after the Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal withdrew his candidacy.
Dr Bhattarai also argued that the “parliamentary parties” are largely responsible for creating a state of anarchy. He said the masses would “unleash a revolt” for the sake of peace and constitution in the country. Bhattarai is currently on a three-day visit to his home district, Gorkha and is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on Monday.
