Dahal´s remarks comes at a time when his arch rivals Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya and Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai have formed an alliance to force Dahal to share the party´s power, which is centralized in the hands of Dahal, with other party leaders.[break]
He argued that even late Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala had warned him that such a conspiracy was being hatched.
“Even Girijababu had told me repeatedly that the way I am speaking would either lead to my annihilation or my own party colleagues would make me weep,” said Dahal while addressing a talks program organized by civil society members close to Dahal.
“Now, I realize what the old man meant,” he said. Dahal also argued that he was advised by Koirala not to stay in Naya Bazaar for security reasons.
Dahal look sad and tense while speaking at the function and argued that he is not biased against party leaders including Baidya, Bhattarai, Narayankaji Shrestha and Ram Bahadur.
“Ultimately the party would move ahead united. I don´t move ahead alone. I will take the whole party organization into confidence and complete the peace process and constitution drafting,” he said.
Dahal, however, dismissed that such internal contradictions can be fatal for the party. “Debates are natural inside and outside the party,” he said. He also stated that even foreign power centers are hatching conspiracy to split the party.
Civil Society leaders Shyam Shrestha, Khagendra Sangraula, Sundar Mani Dixit and Kishor Nepal, among others, had advised Dahal not to share his powers with other leaders saying such a move would weaken the chairman in the party. They also criticized Baidya and Bhattarai for forging an alliance to make the party chairman weak.
