Congress, UML issue whip

KATHMANDU, May 27: The ruling CPN-UML has issued whip to its lawmakers to compulsorily be present at the parliament’s meeting on Saturday and cast their votes in favor of the government’s bill proposing extension of the CA term by one more year.



UML Chief Whip Bhim Acharya said the whip has been issued for the parliament meeting scheduled for 8 am Saturday. [break]



“We will try to hold a parliamentary party meeting in the morning if possible. But this whip might be final in view of time constraint as the decisive House meeting has been called for early morning,” Acharya told Republica.



However, some of the UML lawmakers, including whip Thammaya Thapamagar, were unaware of the whip until late evening on Friday. “How can it be possible? We had decided to issue the whip only after holding a parliamentary meeting on Saturday morning,” Thapamagar said.



Likewise, Nepali Congress (NC) has issued whip to all its lawmakers to be present in the meeting of the legislature parliament on Saturday.



Issuing a press statement, NC Chief Whip Laxman Ghimire asked all lawmakers of the party to be present in the meeting and not to leave the venue till the House session concludes.



Legislature parliament is expected to vote for the extension of the term of Constituent Assembly (CA) on Saturday.
